Funny motivational Speaker Amy Dee,
Yesterday, we played hooky and left our home office for a road trip. I often crochet while riding in the car. Steve would comment on an oddly painted house or funny billboard, but I’d miss it because, instead of paying attention to the view, I was crocheting.
Once I realized what I was missing, I put down my crochet hook and became present for the road trip experience. We found interesting shops, witnessed some humorous interactions once I paid attention to the Activity of the Moment… driving.
Several years ago, I took my daughter Sofi to the airport. She was leaving on her annual, month-long visit with her father in Norway. While saying goodbye, Sofi said, “I feel like we never have time together.” This surprised me because Sofi and I spent lots of time together. When we talked about it, Sofi recognized that her phone often distracted her from paying attention during our time together.
When Sofi returned from Norway, she made a point of putting her phone away while we hung out together. Once she paid attention to her PM, the person of the moment, namely me, our communication strengthened, and our relationship became even closer.
We live in a world filled with distractions that steal our attention away from what is important.
Today, pay deliberate attention to your AM, the activity of the moment, and your PM, the person of the moment.
Giving your full attention to your AM and your PM will increase your happiness, strengthen your communication, and improve your relationships.
